Dance Attire

There's no strict 'uniform' at Dance Canvas, as we encourage students to express their creativity through their dance attire (while keeping things classy and tasteful). However, most classes do require one or two essential items. Here are a few guidelines to help you pick the right outfit for your child...

We recommend Tights 'n Things (1924 E Sunshine, Springfield) for all your dance attire needs!

Ballet Technique / Beaming Ballerinas

Clothes:  A leotard and tights are required for these classes. Ballet skirt is optional.

Get creative with any color leotard you choose!

Shoes: Ballet shoes are required for this class.

Hair:  Pulled back and secured out of their face and eyes.

Contemporary /
Contemporary Ballet

Clothes:  Something comfortable you can move around in freely, e.g. leggings or shorts and a tank top or t-shirt. No jeans.

Shoes:  Bare feet are fine, jazz slippers are also an option.

Hair:  Pulled back out of their face and eyes.

Dance Fusion

Clothes:  Tank top, tighter-fitting t-shirt or leotard, with leggings or shorts.

Shoes:  Jazz shoes are required for this class (Monday's 7:30pm class also requires tap shoes)

Hair:  Pulled back out of their face and eyes.

Ballet & Tap /
Ballet & Jazz

Clothes:  A leotard and tights are required for this class. If they would like to put dance shorts or a fitted shirt on over their leotard for the tap portion that's fine. Get creative with any color leotard you choose!

Shoes:  Ballet and Tap shoes are required for this class.

Hair:  Pulled back out of their face and eyes.

Creative Dance

Clothes: Comfortable clothing. A fitted t-shirt and cotton shorts or skirt is perfect. If they want to wear a leotard they can, but we don't require you to buy specific dance attire at this point.

Shoes: Bare feet or ballet shoes. There are advantages to both. Dancing barefoot can help young dancers develop the arches and muscles in their feet and can also connect them to the floor to feel grounded. Ballet shoes give them the experience of taking a dance class and having something special to put on before class. The shoes help with balance. At this age, either option would be good!

Hair: Pulled back out of their face and eyes.

Dance Mash
Hip Hop / Hippity Hop

Clothes: Comfortable clothes (no jeans). A t-shirt and shorts, leggings, or pants is good. Whatever makes them get into the groove of hip hop!

Shoes: Hip hop sneakers or tennis shoes (preferably white soles and not their everyday street shoes).

Clothes: For the girls, a leotard and tights is perfect, or a fitted shirt and cotton shorts, leggings or skirt will work too. For the boys, a t-shirt & shorts/comfortable pants would be great (no jeans).

Shoes:  Tap and Ballet shoes are required for this class.

Hair:  Pulled back out of their face and eyes.

Jazz, Tap & Ballet

Clothes:  A leotard and tights are required for this class. If they would like to put dance shorts or a fitted shirt on over their leotard for the tap portion that's fine. Get creative with any color leotard you choose!

Shoes:  Ballet and Tap shoes are required for this class.

Hair:  Pulled back out of their face and eyes.
